Can I Carry a Tripod on to a Plane?
Yes and no. It depends on the size of your tripod and also the airport officer checking your luggage. If you have a small, mostly plastic tripod, it is most likely allowed on the plane.
Although tripods are not mentioned as a prohibited item on the TSA website, we had mixed experience with the larger tripod. It was allowed at some airports while at Narita Airport, Tokyo, the TSA officer plainly said, “This item is not allowed due to security. It must be checked in”. To be safe, check your tripod in.
