United Kingdom – Quick Facts, Rough Costs, Places of Interest

Great Britain is an island lying between France and Ireland in Western Europe. It consists of three countries – England, Scotland and Wales – and together with Northern Ireland and a couple of small islands, makes the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (or simply the United Kingdom or UK). Geographically, the term Britain refers to the island of Great Britain, but politically, it refers to the UK. BritRail passes only cover travel within the island of Great Britain so if you wish to include Northern Ireland, you have to get a BritRail + Ireland pass (which covers the whole of Ireland).
