Tokyo Day 7 Part 2 — Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

Previously, we took in the sights of Shinjuku (Tokyo Day 7 Part 1). We then proceeded to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden to enjoy the autumn colours.

Cheap Food in Shinjuku

It was cloudy today, and the coldest, windiest day thus far. We had a quick breakfast at a quiet McCafe (shrimp and brocolli croissant with coffee set 490 yen) and were surprised when the staff offered to clear my tray. After a week in Tokyo, we’d got used to separating our plastic and paper trash ourselves. ^_^

McDonald’s McCafe menu, from top (the numbers you see are the prices in yen):
Dripped coffee(hot 180 yen, iced small 210 yen), hot espresso, iced coffee/frappe, hot tea, iced tea, soft drinks, set meals, soups, croissants, rolls, pies, baked goods (butter costs 20yen, kids combo 390yen), desserts(last two rows).

Fan Asian Dining. Lunch curry buffet, all you can eat in 90 minutes,  880 yen. A buffet is also known as “viking” here. If you eat a lot, the lunch-time viking here is a very reasonably-priced option.

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

We visited Shinjuku Gyoen, a huge and beautiful park. The admission fee is 200 yen and it opens from 9am to 4:00pm.

The met office predicted showers yesterday and today but thankfully it did not rain. The strong winds, however, were making the perceived temperature a couple degrees colder. Nothing can distract us from the beauty of the place.

Did someone say momiji? Japanese Maple leaves had turned reddish orange near the entrance.

The park was delightfully vast and stunning in its brown and red autumn wear.
