I wanna go to Iceland
For the fourth time this week I was enticed into visiting Iceland (three times by different shows on the telly plus a full page feature in the newspaper).
I have been fascinated with the out-of-this-world Blue Lagoon geothermal spa and the Northern Lights Aurora Borealis (photo above) when I saw it in a documentary many years ago.
But being a big fan of cities, I really fell in love with the country when I saw the movie The Girl in the Cafe some time ago. I don’t remember much about the story but I do remember it was set in the beautiful Reykjavík.
The exorbitant cost of visiting the place puts me off so it was put on the list of “places to go when I’ve got too much money”. Well, the recent financial crisis has seen the value of the Icelandic kronur drop and in turn reduced the prices of everything from fish to beer and suddenly Iceland seems like a slightly more affordable destination. I’m not sure if it was a coincidence or a case of the Icelandic tourism board hard at work that the country is so aggresively promoted right now but what I’m certain of is that it’s a beautiful, beautiful country.
Maybe we should all go there and help their economy?
