Europe By Rail Day 1 : London Part 3 – Tower Bridge, London Eye, Big Ben Clock Tower, Westminster Palace
Tower Bridge
We took the tube to Tower Hill stop and walked across the Tower Bridge, one of London’s most iconic symbols. The Tower bridge is a bridge over the River Thames located close to the Tower of London, which gives it its name.
It got very windy and quite chilly as we’re walking. And gloomy too. We bought a 99p cup of drip coffee to warm ourselves while we continued walking towards the London Eye.
London Eye
The London Eye, the tallest observation wheel in Europe. Tickets for a ride in this giant ferris wheel can be bought online at a cost of £10 per adult or £17.95 on site (See London Eye tickets and prices).
Palace of Westminster
The Palace of Westminster (also known as the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Palace) is the meeting place of the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom — the House of Lords and the House of Commons.
The famous Big Ben, is located in the clock tower. Contrary to popular believe, ‘Big Ben’ is the bell within the clock tower, not the clock tower itself.
The clock tower at Westminster Palace is much, much bigger than we expected.
London Day 1 Summary
We decided to walk back to easyHotel Victoria from the Houses of Parliament, which, on hindsight, was a bit of a mistake because we were bloody tired by then. We should have taken the tube at Westminster stop, which just across the road to the palace.
Today we had gone to Buckingham Palace to witness the Changing the Guard ceremony, then to Trafalgar Square where we had our lunch near the National Gallery, followed by the long walk from Tower bridge to London Eye to Westminster Palace. Phew! What a full day and we’ve only arrived in London this morning!
